USAID’s African Education Initiative (AEI) focuses on trying to improve the quality of education for children in Africa. They also focus on increasing the amount of children that are attending school. As of 2010, 80 million have been helped by AEI. In order to improve the quality and increase the numbers of students attending AEI has numerous efforts. Currently AEI is working to decrease the gap between the number of girls and boys enrolled in school. Girls represent the majority of the 33 million children who do not attend school. In order to change this AEI is planned to provide 550,000 scholarships by 2010 so girls can attend primary and secondary school. AEI has also offered 15 million textbooks and other learning utensils so that the quality of education is higher. Coinciding with this, AEI donated $25 million worth of books so that the children can have materials that they would ordinarily would not. The AEI finally developed and expanded methods so that 920,000 teachers can give children the education they deserve. Since its start, AEI has accomplished numerous tasks that have greatly helped the education situation in Africa.
