The United State Agency for International Development (USAID) was created on November 3, 1961 by President John F. Kennedy after the Foreign Assistance Act was signed as a law on September 4, 1961. They are currently based in Washington D.C and work closely with private volunteer organizations. USAID has become remarkably involved in the efforts to improve education in Africa. The African Education Initiative (AEI), one of USAID’s initiatives, has made ambassador scholarship programs for girls available, along with expanding the quality of learning materials for children. The AEI also set forth to train new and existing teachers so the children can have a better education and they have donated numerous amounts of books to use.
"The President's Africa Education Initiative (AEI) is a $600-million multi-year initiative that focuses on increasing access to quality basic education in 39 sub-Saharan countries through scholarships, textbooks, and teacher training programs."
"AEI also seeks to strengthen and extend development partnerships between the United States and Africa by actively engaging African leaders and educators, the international development community, and U.S. interest groups."
